Mitie and the Mitie Foundation with their SOMOs trophy
With their Ready2Work Programme, the winners of the UK Social Mobility Awards 2021 ‘Recruitment Programme of the Year’ was facilities management company, Mitie. Mitie fund the Mitie Foundation, which was founded in 2013 and focuses on providing life-changing opportunities for a diverse group of people by breaking down barriers to employment. Their main aim is to ensure that they have a workforce that represents its communities by 2030.
Their application defined three bespoke versions of the Ready2Work programme, each of which focused on providing candidates with the relevant skills and experience they need:
- Ready2Work Military – opportunities for military veterans
- Ready2Work Enable – opportunities for disabled people and those with learning difficulties
- Ready2Work Beyond Bars – opportunities for prison leavers
Due to the pandemic, Mitie had to overcome many challenges that this brought, including accessibility issues faced as the Programme became virtual and their reach limited. However, they continued to deliver in challenging circumstances with Mitie’s partners providing support, and so the programmes resulted in an incredible 67% employment rate.
Alexia Tsalkitzoglou, the Foundation Manager at Mitie Foundation, stated that “we’re constantly reviewing our talent process – how we recruit, where we recruit from, how accessible our vacancies are, and ensuring the progression opportunities are clear.” Read the full case study for Mitie here.
